It Begins.

Actually, it's already begotten. Starting 1 Jan 2008, I committed myself to a year of not buying anything new.

Now this isn't Foraging 101. There are some exceptions. The following items must come to me shiny and pristine, otherwise I'll spend the whole year inventing new illnesses for myself. Or die of starvation.

consumables: toothpaste, soap, cleaning products, paper, food, underwear, socks, toothbrushes, cocktails, wildly expensive skincare serums

experiences: movies (in theater), concerts, art openings, travel, dinner out

The rest of my yearly needs I'm either going to buy used or abstain from buying altogether. It will be interesting to see how much, or if , this list changes. January has already had its share of surprises...

seriously, no joke -
i had a MBD (mini break down) last week and one of my realizations (side effects) was that i, too, do not need anything new.

new ice skates? why? my old ones feel weird but they work fine overall.

new sofa? why? something wrong with sitting on a blanket in front of the fire?

new home? holy shit, WHY? this one works. i stay dry in the rains. i stay safe in the dark. and my daughter is absolutely gaga over her pink room. new place not necessary no matter HOW low the interest rates drop.

i have seriously noticed all the extra crap in my home and will be systematically trashing, donating, ebay-ing, and selling in the next several weeks.

for my birthday in march i will ask for the fee for my hocket season to be paid for. all material gifts will be returned.

so glad this blog exists. way more fun than the politico ones i read to intensify my insomnia.

bye -
